A successful field day on goats for management and profit was held on Saturday 24th March 207 at “Merinda Park” Woolomin in the tablelands of NSW Australia. About 90 visitors enjoyed the lectures, looking at goats, learning animal husbandry techniques, and talking to the representatives at the trade stands present.


The program included the following comprehensive lectures. 
  • Industry Direction and Support given by Peter Schuster, who is a consultant with Meat and Livestock Australia.
     
  • Current Issues effecting the goat industry, delivered by Bob Muir who is a long term goat producer and also the NSW Farmers representative on the Goat Industry Council of Australia.
     
  • Nutritional Requirements for Goats given by Olsson’s nutritionalist Allan Ross.
     
  • Goats - more than weed eaters. Geoff Davis talked on this.
     
  • Domestic goat Market Requirements and Processor Innovations.  Given by Peter Griffith who is the Principal of PBM Prime Meats.
     
  • The process to meet Export Markets.  What are producer requirements and what are export expectations.  Norma Cairns from Hunter Livestock Export Services delivered this talk.
     
  • Value adding in the Goat Industry .The difficulties in achieving organic certification. Lecture given by David and Mary Booth of Buronga Organics.
